but it doesn't quite work out, with Wick completely dismantling his criminal empire before murdering the man in cold blood.īy the end of the movie, John bags a staggering 128 kills, wiping out most of the Italian crime syndicate in the process. Ultimately, his target, Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), holes up at The Continental, knowing that Wick can't touch him without facing the consequences. “John Wick: Chapter 2” may not be for the faint of heart, but for action film fans, this is the movie you’ve been waiting for.Double-crossed by an Italian crime boss, Wick fights his way through hordes of men sent to take him down. The film is a throwback to films of the ‘80s that relied on rhythmic action or fighting sequences which progressed from ‘A’ to ‘B’ and not simple explosions, which play out as a deus ex machina to the next scene. What I loved about the film was the lack of CGI, which many action films now heavily rely on. The fight sequences are soundly choreographed and fast-paced and leave your heart racing. Similar to “La La Land,” Wick dances around a fantastical world hidden in plain sight, only people are trying to kill him instead of hiring him to act in a French film. Wick lives in a beautifully shot and colorfully vibrant world framed by Guillermo del Toro’s main cinematographer, Dan Lausten. The best part of the film is easily the cinematography. He also gets hurt and limps and struggles, for at least a while, before magically healing. Wick often struggles with not having enough ammo, unlike most action heroes who somehow have unlimited ammo caches. Wick is no superhero.ĭespite the copious amount of death and violence, the film does keep a grounded sense of reality. Even Liam Neeson spared a few people in “Taken” and they kidnapped his daughter, which is at a whole different level than taking someone’s car. I could have avoided killing the baddies but why not shoot them, it’s a game right? It is truly hard to underscore the level of violence and death in this film. From this the entire rest of the film involves very little dialogue and insane amounts of killing in very brutal ways. Wick comes out of his brief retirement to successfully complete the job, which opens a new can of worms. Wick originally declines the offer, but D’Antonio forces his hand. Using a MacBook Pro and testing with Geekbench 5.3, The Verge found its review unit scored 1,730/7,510 points. Outlets like The Verge also tested the M1, but under different conditions. It loses out to the iMac’s 9,046 multi-core score, but that officially gives the M1 higher single-core test results out of any Intel Macs, even desktops. The M1’s single-core score also beats the 27-inch 2020 Core i9 iMac’s single-core score, which only hit 1,246. Meanwhile, the Tiger Lake Dell scored in 1,496/5,254 on our own Geekbench 5.0 benchmarks, while the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Extreme Gen 3 with an Intel Core i7-10850H chip scored 1,221/6,116. That’s well above their results for the 2020 i7 MacBook Air, which were 1,130/3,053. Engadget reports that the M1 MacBook Air had Geekbench 5 results of 1,619/6,292. KSP is far from the most demanding core simulation in a videogame (cities skyline comes to mind) and yet I can't think of a single game that has offloaded simulation work to the GPU (although I'm sure some do exist), it just doesn't make any sense. To make matters worse if you want to offload CPU work to the GPU you then add a lot of overhead to facilitate the communication between the 2, meaning that the performance would likely not even be any better at all. They're not designed for such small workloads as a ~100 entity physics simulation like in KSP. GPUs on the other hand are design to crunch massive quantities of data, on the order of millions of parallel, relatively independant and relatively simple calculations per second. If you have a thousand complex calculations that are co-dependant and have to be performed in a specific order then a CPU is best, that's what CPUs are designed to do. Using GPUs for their compute power is not the golden bullet that many seem to think it is, they're only useful in very specific use cases, extremely large data sets to be specific. This is obvious from the relatively low CPU requirements they've listed, the CPU requirements are still higher than KSP1 because there's a hell of a lot more for the CPU to do in a game than just running the core simulation. If anything it'll run far better than KSP1 thanks to building it from the ground up and not growing organically on a janky house of cards like KSP1's simulation was. The fundamental physics problem that KSP2's physics is solving is pretty much the same as in KSP1 so the core simulation shouldn't be noticeably harder to run than KSP1 was. If that turns out to be true I'll eat my left shoe. That is utterly baseless and would be a very bizarre decision.
